Getting Things Done with a Smile!
Hey there, folks! Ever feel like your work just expands to fill up all your available time? Cyril Parkinson nailed it when he said that! I used to dedicate an entire day to writing an article for my coaching practice, and guess what? It magically took the WHOLE day.
But then, I stumbled upon a fantastic trick!
Instead of setting aside hours upon hours, I tried setting a simple 45-minute alarm. And you won't believe what happened – not only did I get the job done, but the articles turned out better and more focused! So let's take a closer look at this phenomenon and see how we can make it work for all of us.
When we commit to a clear deadline, some amazing things happen:
We set a clear goal and know exactly when to achieve it – that's empowering!
A sense of urgency kicks in, pushing us to get things done pronto!
Procrastination? Forget about it! Our integrity is on the line, and we're determined to keep it intact.
We become super engaged and hyper-focused, making the task at hand a piece of cake.
Dopamine, the feel-good hormone, joins the party, rewarding us for our efforts.
The result? We get things done like champs!
We all know that feeling when we have a single focus, and we're on a mission to complete a task. But let's be real – we often have a million things running through our minds, and multitasking seems inevitable. We get stuck in processing paperwork, dealing with routine tasks, and the important stuff gets buried.
Now, here's a friendly coaching tip to help you get better at nailing the important things quickly and efficiently: Use Commitment Management!
Instead of letting things drag on indefinitely, make commitments to yourself and others, and stick to them like glue. Or, get commitments from others, and manage those commitments effectively. In other words, don't just wait around – have those necessary conversations and get the ball rolling!
Embracing this clarity will reduce the usual delays and excuses that keep us from reaching our goals. Instead, it'll supercharge our efficiency and productivity.
Let's give this a test run!
Take a moment right now and think about a crucial task you want to accomplish. For instance, maybe you need to hire a nurse manager in 30 days. If you let the process unfold naturally, it might take a whopping 100 days! But you're not letting that happen, no way!
Here's what you can do:
Believe in yourself – yes, you can do this!
Fully commit to the 30-day deadline – no looking back.
Gather everyone involved in a meeting to rally around the shared goal.
Explain why it's crucial to fill the position in 30 days and ask for their support.
Lay out the hiring process and ask each person to commit to the desired outcome.
Manage those commitments like a pro – check in regularly and make sure everyone's on track.
If someone misses a commitment, don't panic – just have a chat, get a new commitment, and move forward.
Oh, and don't forget to put your commitments on your calendar – stay true to yourself!
Remember, this process works wonders when everyone commits and takes ownership of their results. So why not try it out with your personal goals too?
Give it a go, and let me know how it's working out for you – I'm sure you'll be thrilled with the results!
Happy achieving, my friends!
